“Ferrari” is an excellent movie from 2023 but it is not the movie people will be expecting. Enzo Ferrari is almost 60 years old. We immediately learn that he and his wife Laura have lost their son to an illness. Losing their son has hurt their marriage. They both run the Ferrari business. The year is 1957 and the company is near bankruptcy. The story is told within three months of that year. The company might live if the Ferrari team can win the 1,000 mile race in Italy called the Mille Miglia. If they win, companies like Fiat or Ford may want to invest in Ferrari. We see several times in this movie where racing, especially in the 1950s can be extremely dangerous.
Another part of the story is that Laura learns that Enzo has an illegitimate son, Piero, and Enzo has been supporting Piero and his mother, Lina, without telling Laura. This causes more problems. Adam Driver plays Enzo Ferrari. Penelope Cruz plays Laura Ferrari. Shailene Woodley plays Lina. Michael Mann (“Heat”, “Collateral”) directs “Ferrari”. Michael Mann directed my favorite movie, “The Insider”. I give this movie an 8 out 10. You can rent and buy “Ferrari” on Amazon.
